Background

Finally escaping from the Family, Sally makes a final desperate dash from the house and out to the main road. There she encounters and hops into a blue pickup truck, which provides her final escape from an enraged and wounded Leatherface.

 

Packaging

While this continues GreenLight's standard "Hollywood" box style, the particular graphics used here are so large that they end up blocking much of the truck. The top line of the title and Leatherface's silhouette reach to nearly the top of the front panel, leaving a narrow 3" (75mm) strip up the middle of the window where you can actually see the contents. It's a bit overblown, and the simple repeated title on every panel - plus an interior wallpaper made by repeating the movie poster and including a single still from the movie - make it less impressive than some of GreenLight's previous work. It's not bad by any stretch, and the interior plastic tray and protective sheet are as welcome as ever, but they've done better.

 

Casting/Paint

The only external difference between this and the ID4 pickup is the paint. This is a single solid blue, with a heavy layer of dust over everything. The work is just as good here as it was there, with a realistic patina that doesn't feel like a sprayed-on paint job. The bed of the truck is spotted with rust, and the back window is marked with a sliding pane and two handprints. It bears only a single rear license plate, a Texas 1973 "AC★5882."

Inside, the bench seat has been replaced by a set of Cheyenne-trim bucket seats with center console. The casting is as nice as the bench, with the appropriate pads and patterns all in place.

 

Features/Accessories

This, being a standard release, has chrome wheels instead of green.

 

Accuracy

It looks really good overall, only a few minor details miss the mark: first, the sideview mirrors should be two rectangular mirrors; the movie truck was a base model, so it had painted bumpers and wheels rather than chrome; it should have a second license plate on the front bumper; and finally, the rear bumper was a step bumper with no trailer hitch in the movie. Most of these are simply the inevitable by-product of reusing the same mold, and none are worth docking the overall replica. The only one I'm scratching my head over is the lack of a front license plate, but even that's a mere quibble. Although the interior is a bit fancier than the exterior trim would suggest, it was never shown in the movie and anyone who knew their way around an order sheet could mix and match parts on these trucks with ease.

 

Overall

I liked the ID4 release, and I like this just as much. The few details that it missed are easy to fix or ignore, and in no way take away from the quality of this. It's just more good work from GreenLight.
