I don't often pick up LEGO City sets, but as a tie-in to 2K Drive my interest was piqued. The inclusion of a half Tron/half Knight Rider racer that had optional weapons modes bumped it up to "must-have."

The builds were straightforward but clever, going together in less than an hour. Once assembled they're about 2¼" (55mm) wide and 6" (150cm) long for the street car, and 2¼" (55mm) wide and 5½" (145mm) long for the off-roader. The nose and tail sections of each can be removed and swapped easily, both with each other and with other sets in the current LEGO City line.

The street car is my favorite of the set, with a black/cyan/magenta color scheme that screams 80s cyberpunk. Front and rear diffusers, open wheels up front, and solid bars for the headlights and taillights further enhance the look. There's also some nice attention to detail, from the large intakes behind the front wheels to the sideview mirrors to the quad exhausts sticking out of the rear diffuser.

I like the off-roader more than I expected. For one thing, the colors look better in person than they do in photos, and the silver parts really pop when you see them directly. There are also some interesting subassemblies going on, like the way the way the safety cages, rear cowling, and hood scoop are done. Using sideways-mounted fender pieces to represent differential guards is a smart bit of design, too.

Three accessory sets are included, each to be plugged into the sides of the cars. First is a quad copter arrangement, making the vehicle look a bit like a drone. All four propellers spin, and while a little awkward it still works. Second are a pair of spring-loaded blasters, which fire with a surprising amount of force - keep an eye on where they go. Fortunately, LEGO did include a couple of spares should one get away from you. Finally, a set of boosters to mimic the turbines that are used in the game.

Two minifigs are also included, one for each vehicle. Each one can have their hair swapped for a black helmet with tinted visor, and one includes an alternate face with tinted goggles on.

While these are a little smaller than my usual TV/movie/game cars, each has a footprint roughly the same as the Malibu Stacy roadster (about the size of a kei car) so they're not ridiculously undersized. Besides, LEGO sets often get a little extra wiggle room when it comes to size, and these were just too cool to pass up. They may be good enough to convince me to get more of the 2K Drive sets.
