Fifth in my growing collection of custom Maximals, Rhinox required the most repainting thanks to his...unique...toy design. Hasbro decided that their rhinoceros should be two-tone brown with gold horns and nails (then Takara went even further off the rails, replacing the darker brown with a gray that made the toy look like it was wearing a T shirt).

I started with light coats of several browns, leaving the dark gray of the original figure to create shadows in the various folds and wrinkles. Then a drybrushing of AK Interactive's "Base Flesh" color was applied to create the darker brown along his spine and lower legs. The gold sections were painted with Mondo Llama's "Gold Rush," and as an experiment I painted his eyes using Folk Art's glow-in-the-dark red. Unfortunately, the eyes are so small that the glow effect is nearly lost, but at least it still looks good in natural light.
