Toy Fair 2013 Day 3: Model Citizens
Tuesday, February 12. 2013
The last few years, Toy Fair has had almost no representation from the model kit world...but that changed big time for TF2013. The biggest news was the first built sample of the 1/25 Tumbler kit from Moebius. Fans have been waiting and hoping to see a kit of this car since 2005, and when Frank Winspur announced his intention to do one the response was enthusiastic to say the least. There were also on-hand samples of the Batpod, Batman & Catwoman figures, Mel's Drive-In and 1313 Mockingbird Lane in 1/87 scale, and several monster kits.
Round 2 and Revell were also on the scene with several of their latest kits, including Christine and the Boot Hill Express. More of these classic TV, movie, and show rod kits have been coming out recently, and 2013 is shaping up to be another good one.
Elsewhere, manufacturers Bburago, Maisto, Carrera, M2, and Greenlight had several new items: Maisto & Bburago are continuing their tradition of exotic supercars with the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento and Dodge Viper SRT, while Carrera has a new GT-40 and 917K on deck. M2 Machines had some new classic iron, but more exciting is their first foray into model kits. They will be starting with a version of their Camaro, but if all goes well we will see more in the future.
Greenlight entered the world of 1/24 scale entertainment in 2012, and had samples of their Bewitched, MIB3, and Fast Five cars at the show (reviews for all three are available here). While they were not able to confirm any new licenses for 2013, they did hint that we will be seeing some new modern muscle from Chevrolet soon.
All in all, it was fantastic to see so many companies with 1/24 & 1/25 scale items—2013 looks like it's going to be a great year for builders and collectors!
