Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is another one of those overlooked movies that I really enjoy. Though it's not quite as obscure as some other films on my list, I'm still surprised that the movie isn't better known (the cast alone - Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy, and Geoffrey Lewis - should've made this a bigger hit). It's not that it was a bad movie, either: Bridges was nominated for an Oscar (he lost to Robert De Niro for The Godfather Part II), and it has had a consistently "fresh" rating at RottenTomatoes.com (currently standing at 86%, the same rating as Doctor Zhivago). Word has it that Eastwood refused to work with United Artists after he felt they dropped the ball promoting the film...all things considered, I can believe that.
Regardless, I wanted a representation of the movie for my collection, and set out one day looking for a '73 Firebird from the first action sequence. To my pleasant surprise, Superior/Sunnyside made a '73 T/A that was a near-perfect match. All it needed was a little cleanup and some repainting. The end result can bee seen here.
