Ghostbusters 3 was an idea that was first floated as soon as Ghostbusters 2 was in the can. Then it was off the table when it failed to meet box office expectations thanks to the juggernaut Batman being released a week later. Then it was back on. Then Murray was out. Then Murray was in, but the script wasn't ready. Then it was going to be an animated movie. Then this, then that, then the other thing. Finally, in 2009, the closest thing to a true original-franchise sequel happened with Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Whether it was a worthy successor that had the bonus of allowing viewers to join the fun, or a "greatest hits" rehash of the first movie is something everyone has to decide for themselves. Personally, I'm just happy they included the Ectomobile.
